Freshman Alexandra Bodrova (Russia / Kurchatovskaya School) has been named SCIAC Athlete of the Week, according to the league’s website. Bodrova is the first Caltech women’s tennis player to have ever been recognized for the honor under Head Coach Mandy Gamble, who is in her 16th season with the team.
Along with freshman doubles partner Angelica Zhou (Temple City, Calif. / Arcadia), Bodrova has gone undefeated in three singles matches and three doubles matches thus far in 2017. She also picked up match-clinching victories against George Fox University in Oregon and against Occidental College on Sunday. Her other two victories came against No. 35 Linfield College. Though the Beavers ended up on the short end of things, a victory over Linfield would have marked their first win over a nationally ranked team in program history.
The Beavers won’t have to wait long for another chance to achieve that elusive nationally-ranked team win, however. Bodrova, Zhou and the rest of the women’s tennis team will look to make it two SCIAC victories in a row when they host 40th-ranked California Lutheran University this Friday at 3 p.m.
