From Staff Reports

Johnny Le picked a good time for a career high in points.

Le’s 21 points sparked Flintridge Prep to a 68-47 victory over Quartz Hill on Wednesday night in the first round of the CIF-SS Division 4-AA playoffs.

Prep outscored Quartz Hill in all four quarters and the victory sets up a Friday home game with Blair at 7 p.m.

The Vikings blew out Ontario, 81-55, also on Wednesday night.

Jake Althouse had his 20 points and 13 rebounds as the consistently solid forward always seems to produce.

“We truly did follow our game plan of getting the ball inside and working inside out,” Althouse said. “Our guards did a great job tonight of getting me the ball inside and then knocking down three’s. We really moved the ball on offense and played well together. Defensively, we did have some lapses, but overall, I felt we played well. Our goal coming in was to limit their 3-point shooters and we definitely accomplished that. It was a great effort and team win.”

Kikkawa neared a triple-double as he seems to do weekly.

The 5-foot-7 guard finished with 8 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists.

“We took care of business tonight,” Kikkawa said. “We did have some defensive lapses, and missed some shots, but we stuck together and slowly pulled away. I thought the ball moved well tonight, and we got a lot of guys involved for us. We’re excited for the opportunity to play at home on Friday.”

Beau Detchemendy added 9 for Prep, whole Cameron Wu had 5 and Jonathan Au chipped in with 3 points and 7 rebounds. Julian Diaz had one bucket for the Rebels.

Zachary Miller led Quartz Hill with 15 points and Roman Pender had 11.

“We came out a little flat after 12 days off,” Prep coach Garrett Ohara said. “Tremendous defense and bench contribution. (We had) five 3 pointers, and Johnny Le helped extend the lead.”

Box Score:
Quartz Hill: 9-15-13-10-(47)
Flintridge Prep: 15-20-16-17-(68)
