St. Francis is starting to find its rhythm.

The Golden Knights have won more games in the last two days than they had in the first 25 days of the 2017 baseball season.

Hayden Byrnes went the distance and allowed just two runs on five hits.

Byrnes struck out five and led the Golden Knights to an 8-2 Mission League victory over Crespi.

The win gives St. Francis a 2-0 record in league play after starting the season 0-7.

In the past two days, the Golden Knights have pounded out 20 runs and 22 hits against the Celts.

Christian Muro had two hits, scored a run and drove in two more.

Doyle Kane and Patrick Dionisio had two hits apiece for a Golden Knights offense that saw eight of its nine starters pick up at least one hit.

Brandon Lewis got the offense going with a two-run blast in the first inning.

Lewis also walked and was hit by pitch.

St. Francis will go for the sweep on Friday at 3:30 at the Glendale Sports Complex.

Quotable:

St. Francis pitcher Hayden Byrnes: “I just prepared mentally well, and came out knowing I was going to throw strikes. I hit my spots today. We’ve stopped being separate. Our first seven games, it seemed like we were playing for ourselves. As league started, we really started playing for each other. My fastball and change got a lot of swings and misses.

St. Francis coach Aaron Dorlarque: “The team’s pitching has stepped up and we have come together as a team. Confidence is contagious and we are now looking forward and not backwards anymore.”
