From Staff Reports

St. Francis is probably sick of hearing or reading that they started the 2017 baseball season 0-7.

What the Golden Knights have done since then, though, is prove they are built to compete for a playoff spot in the Mission League.

Thanks to a 2-1 victory over Chaminade on Tuesday at the Glendale Sports Complex in 8 innings, the Golden Knights are now 3-1 and sit atop the league standings with Harvard-Westlake and Notre Dame.

After taking 2 of 3 from Crespi last week, the Golden Knights earned a victory in the first of three this week with the Eagles.

Chaminade got one run in the first inning off of senior pitcher Evan Tontini, but that’s all the Golden Knights pitching staff would surrender.

St. Francis got even in the fifth when Brandon Lewis drove in Christian Muro.

In the eighth, Niko Khoury singled home Muro and the Golden Knights claimed their third victory in four league games.

Tontini went 6 strong innings and allowed just the first-inning run on four hits.

JP Caire and Chris Stamos each went an inning in relief and neither allowed a hit.

Aaron Treloar had two hits for St. Francis.

St. Francis will travel to Chaminade today (Wednesday) at 3:30 for the second of three games with the Eagles this week.
