From Staff Reports

It was going to be interesting to see how La Salle rebounded from its Del Rey League heartbreaking loss at Bishop Amat on Tuesday.

The Lancers blew a 5-1 lead and fell one game back of Amat.

It looked like frustrations would continue on Friday after La Salle had two bases-loaded scenarios that failed to plate a run.

But six runs in the bottom of the 6th inning really showed some character and grit, as La Salle took down Cathedral, 7-2 on Friday.

Sammy Martinez had a huge game, going 3 for 4 with two doubles, a home run, scored once and drove in three runs.

Grant Fosselman went the first 5 1/3 innings, and allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits.

Fosselman didn’t get a decision, walked three and struck out three on 81 pitches.

Zane Lindeman got the win after going the final 1 2/3 innings and struck out three.

Noah Zate went 2 for 3 with a run scored and an RBI.

Lindeman helped his own cause with a hit and an RBI.

La Salle will travel to Downey on Wednesday at 3:15 in a nonleague game.

Quotable:

La Salle coach Mike Parisi: “I am very proud of the way our team responded from a tough loss on Tuesday. Showed a lot of character on our part. It was a great team win.”

La Salle DH Sammy Martinez: “It felt great to contribute to the win and hopefully I can continue that throughout this season. Today was a great team win and at first we weren’t catching any breaks, but we finally got a rally going in the bottom of the sixth and scored six runs.”

La Salle shortstop Ethan Patrick: It was a big win for us. I think it really helped us get our confidence back after a tough loss at Amat earlier this week. As a team, we were not catching too many breaks from Cathedral’s defense, but we kept fighting and did not give up. We followed the leadership of Sammy Martinez. He really stepped up for us with multiple key hits that helped us come out on top.”
