In a new series of features on our Athletics website, this is the first installment of “Meet the Lancers Athletics Staff.” Sara Medina was hired as PCC’s athletic secretary in 2014 after serving a few years as the school’s sports information intern. She was a student at PCC and an award-winning editor of the PCC Courier, the college’s newspaper. She earned a bachelor’s degree in English at San Diego State University. She is a resident of La Puente. Here is a Q & A with Sara as you get to know one of the college’s hardest-working employees.

What do you do to “recharge your battery?”
I recharge my battery by settling in on the couch and taking part in a good ol’ fashioned “Golden Girls” marathon.

If you didn’t work in college athletics what would be your career?
I’d be a sports journalist and hopefully a recurring guest on ESPN’s “Around the Horn”.

What are some of your hobbies/interests outside athletics?
I love trying new and interesting restaurants around town, attending Los Angeles sports matches and letting off some steam at the batting cages or gym.

Do you have a hidden talent?
I can juggle and I can ride a unicycle … I’ve never tried doing both simultaneously.

What TV shows take up space on your DVR?
– Fixer Upper, Property Brothers, Flip or Flop, Love It or List It, Ghost Encounters, Lost UFO Files, The Mick, Teachers

Last book you read?
Currently working on “Sum It Up” (a biography on coaching legend Pat Summitt) and a GRE Test Prep book.

Favorite snack?
I’m not a big snacker but I will once or twice (or several hundred times a day) visit Bones’ candy bowl. *note, Bones is PCC Athletic Director Tony Barbone

If you could take a vacation anywhere in the world, where would you go?
Greece! I’m dying to go there.

Favorite professional/college sports teams?
Los Angeles Dodgers, Detroit Lions, San Diego State University Aztecs

Most memorable sporting event growing up?
I have two: When I was 9, I was in love with Mike Piazza so I made him a giant sign professing my love and tried to take it into Dodger Stadium for a game. But security confiscated it from me before I got in. I’m still damaged from that.

The other is when I witnessed Vin Scully throw out the first pitch on Dodgers Opening Day in 2009, then seeing Orlando Hudson hit for the cycle in a win over the Giants!

Favorite quotes?
“Pain is nothing compared to what it feels like to quit.” –Dan Gable
“Friends come and go but banners hang forever.” –Kobe Bryant
