From Staff Reports

The bad news for La Salle Wednesday is that Downey lefty Jorge Arellano shut down the Lancers offense, 6-0, on four hits in a nonleague game.

The good news is that in the big picture, this game has no impact on their hunt for a Del Rey League title nor does it impact a potential playoff seeding.

Ethan Patrick, Sammy Martinez, Justin Zuniga and Kevin Lima each had one hit apiece for the Lancers.

Grant Fosselman went the first 2 2/3 innings pitched, allowing four runs (two earned) on three hits.

The senior walked four and struck out two to get the loss.

James Barnard went two scoreless and hitless innings and struck out one.

Jeff Daley allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits over the final 1 1/3 innings.

“We faced a very talented lefty throwing 86 to 89 with a hammer committed to UCSB, he was too much for us,” La Salle coach Mike Parisi said.

La Salle will host Poly tomorrow (Thursday) at 3:30 at the Arcadia County Park.

Quotable:

La Salle shortstop Ethan Patrick: “We just came out extremely flat. It felt like as a team we were not
prepared to play. The starting pitcher for Downey was very good. I believe he is
committed to UCSB. We only had 4 hits today. Our pitching and defense was not
what it needed to be today. So yeah, I just think we weren’t ready to play and
we underestimated them a little bit.”

Box Score:
La Salle: 0-0-0-0-0-0-0-(0)
Downey: 3-0-1-1-1-0-X-(6)
