From Staff Reports

A month ago, there is no way La Salle could have foreseen the Lancers heading into the Spring Break time off in first place in the Camino Real League.

They began the season 1-8.

But after Tuesday’s sweep over Mary Star of the Sea, La Salle now controls its own destiny.

They have won 9 of 10, including the 25-3, 25-13 and 25-17 victory on Tuesday.

Travis Beringer had 13 digs.

Will Dalgarn added 6 aces and Anton Aritz had 8 kills.

Tyrese Lee had 5 blocks.

La Salle won’t play again until April 25, when they travel to St. Paul at 6 p.m.

The Lancers JV also swept the Stars, 25-8 and 25-21.

Quotable:

La Salle coach Tiare Tuitama: “We played a very hard preseason schedule, including games against Division 1 and Division 2 teams. We had some guys who hadn’t played volleyball and it took time for them, but they’ve really come through. The one thing we have are options. We’ve learned to work as a unit.

We lost our setter to grades, and didn’t see this coming. I didn’t know what to expect, because I had never been in this league before. We only got in the gym two weeks before the season started, because our basketball teams went so far in the playoffs, so we were out on the football field practicing.”

Camino Real League Standings:
La Salle (10-9 overall, 6-1 in league)
St. Anthony (13-6, 5-1)
St. Genevieve (12-8-2, 4-2)
Bosco Tech (10-10, 2-3)
St. Bernard (0-2, 0-2)
St. Paul (1-11, 0-4)
Mary Star of the Sea (0-16, 0-5)
