It wasn’t so much losing on Thursday afternoon at Rio Hondo Prep that will bother Poly.

It was how the Panthers loss that will sting for a little bit.

Poly took a 4-0 lead into the bottom of the sixth inning and the Kares scored five runs in the final two innings and with the help of five Panthers’ errors.

Rio Hondo Prep earned a 5-4 victory and handed Poly its first Prep League loss of the season.

Matt Loomis took that 4-0 lead into the sixth and was pulled with one out in the sixth.

Loomis allowed three runs, but only one was earned, on four hits and he struck out three.

Franco Alonso went one inning and was saddled with the loss after allowing two runs (one earned) on one hit and a walk.

Van Fichter and Ryan Clayton both had two hits apiece and each drove in a run for Poly.

Matt Queen doubled and scored.

Sean McTigue drove in a run on a sac fly.

Poly will travel to Firebaugh on Monday at 3:30.
