From Staff Reports
La Salle isn’t making any more out of Monday afternoon’s victory than it was.
A 3-2 win over Schurr is a 3-2 victory over Schurr, according to players and coaches alike.
But… the Lancers and their faithful are hoping this will start a run that they are more than capable of making.
Jeff Daley went into the fifth inning and got the win after allowing two first-inning runs.
Daley surrendered five hits, only walked one and struck out six batters.
Justin Zuniga and Zane Lindeman closed out the victory for the Lancers.
La Salle will face Banning tonight (Tuesday) at Cerritos Valley Christian (at 6:30) in a St. Paul Tournament game.
Back to Monday afternoon, Daley’s freshman brother Mark, who was called up a couple weeks back made a game-changing catch in left field in the sixth inning.
Holding a 3-2 lead, Schurr hit a ball deep into left field over Daley’s head, but the freshman stretched out and dove and erased a likely triple.
Ethan Patrick was Ethan Patrick again.
The star shortstop went 2 for 4, singled, doubled, and drove in a run, which turned out to be the game winner.
James Barnard was also clutch with two hits and a run scored.
Zane Lindeman got two of his three outs via strikeout to pick up the save.
Quotable:
La Salle coach Mike Parisi: “A win is always good, but we’ll have to play a lot better if we want to win another game in the St. Paul Tournament.”
La Salle pitcher Jeff Daley: “After the first inning, I thought I pitched pretty well. I just want to be a No. 3 guy that Coach Parisi can count on. There were some positives we can take from this. We got some key hits, played defense and Zane closed them out. We are capable of playing much better and I hope this starts it all off.”
La Salle shortstop Ethan Patrick: “I mean a win is a win. It was important to get it after an 0-2 (last week). I hope this helps us build some confidence.”
