Andy Hurtado and Downey shut down the St. Francis offense Tuesday morning in the semifinals of the St. Paul Tournament.
Hurtado held St. Francis to three hits in the 2-0 victory in a game that started at 9:30 a.m.
The Vikings pitcher struck out six.
Christian Muro, Aaron Treloar and Brandon Lewis all went 1 for 3 for the Golden Knights.
Nolan Shwery went four innings, allowing one unearned run on three hits.
Shwery walked three and stuck out one.
JP Caire went two, allowing one run on no hits.
Caire walked one and struck out three batters.
Andy Valtierra had the only RBI base hit of the game for Downey.
St. Francis will face Long Beach Poly Wednesday night at 6:30 at Cerritos Valley Christian at 6:30 p.m.
“We struggled to put any pressure on their pitcher or defense, while our pitchers were hurt by untimely walks, errors and wild pitches in key situations”, said Coach Aaron Dorlarque
