Zane Lindeman has shown flashes of brilliance on the mound throughout the 2017 baseball season.
On Wednesday afternoon, the Lancers junior was brilliant.
Lindeman threw the area’s first no-hitter of the season and did so in the most dominating fashion possible.
He didn’t walk a batter, struck out seven and did all of that on just 70 pitches.
Lindeman did hit two batters and there was a first-inning error, so a perfect game was not in the cards.
But a no-hitter is any pitcher’s dream come true, and as important, he sent La Salle into the second half of league play on a very high note.
Lindeman did almost all of the work in La Salle’s 2-0 victory over San Pedro in the St. Paul Tournament finale at Downey High School.
“I honestly didn’t know I had a no-hitter until the game was over and my teammates came sprinting out of the dugout,” Lindeman said. “I knew early on that my stuff was pretty good and my defense did everything they could to support me. Without them, none of this would be possible. It didn’t hit me that I really threw a no-hitter until I was eating dinner with my family and it was like, ‘wow, that was pretty awesome.’ I really hope this momentum carries over next week when we play two against St. Paul in league.”
Ethan Patrick went 2 for 3 for the Lancers.
The La Salle shortstop scored a run and drove in another.
Steven Froio went 2 for 3 with a stolen base.
La Salle won St. Paul Tournament games over Schurr, Banning and San Pedro.
Victor Scalzo and Luke Heiberg had one hit apiece.
The Lancers will travel to St. Paul on Tuesday at 3:15, and then host the Swordsmen on Friday at the Arcadia County Park at 4.

La Salle coach Mike Parisi: “Zane was outstanding today, and had great command of his pitches He was 22 out of 25 first-pitch strikes. A 70 pitch no hitter is very difficult to accomplish, very proud of him.”
La Salle DH Sammy Martinez: “It was exciting to be a part of. Watching him dominate on the mound was a great sight to see, especially as we move into the second half of league. I don’t even think he knew he was throwing one, which is even better because that’s how locked in he was.”
La Salle infielder Jeff Daley: “Zane’s a pitcher I’ve gotten to see grow since freshmen year, and the amount of time he puts in to improve his pitching is incredible. His work ethic is unmatched, and his desire to win is always present. Not only is he extremely reliable on the mound, but also very supportive as a close teammate. He’s a leader with fantastic athleticism and character.”
La Salle shortstop Ethan Patrick: “It was great playing behind Zane today. His stuff was really working and he got us a lot of ground balls and pop up outs. He really led us to get the win today.”
