Poly pitcher Brennah Bronk and the Panthers made the ultimate statement on Thursday at Chadwick.

Both the Dolphins and Panthers were 5-0 in the Prep League title race.

But Brennah Bronk took over and Poly clearly established itself as the team to beat.

Bronk struck out 16 and Poly handed Chadwick a 7-4 loss in Palos Verdes Peninsula.

She allowed four hits and picked up her eighth win of the season.

The victory gives the Panthers the top spot in the hierarchy, at least for now.

Vivian Wheeler went 2 for 4 with two runs scored.

Bronk also had two hits and a run scored.

Catalina Alonso also had two hits, with a run scored and an RBI.

Megan Kelleher went 2 for 3 with three RBI and a run scored.

Poly will host Firebaugh on Monday at 3:30

Quotable:

Poly coach Jennifer Bond: “Poly came ready to play today and was not taking no for an answer. These girls have one thing on their mind and that is going undefeated in league. If they can play like they did today, they will accomplish just that. We are taking it one game at a time.

The difference was that when it came to the nut and grunt, we were able to come up with a hit when we really needed one. We had runners in scoring position, we found a way to bring them in. Chadwick couldn’t come up with that key hit. Just about every inning Chadwick had a runner on third with 1 or 0 outs and they couldn’t get a run across. One inning Chadwick had bases loaded with no outs and we were able to get out of it with no runs scored.”

Poly pitcher Brennah Bronk: “Today’s win was a team effort and I’m proud of how we all played. Everyone knew how important this game was and gave their best effort. I am proud of my teammates and am looking forward to the remainder of the season. Go Poly!”
