They say the measure of a man’s true character is his reaction to adversity.

Less than 24 hours after blowing a 4-0 lead late to last-place Heritage Christian, Maranatha was back on the field.

Netz went 2 2/3 innings and gave up two runs on one hit.

He walked four and struck out six.

Popham went the final 2 1/3, scattered three hits, and struck out two.

Eddie Lopez might be the hottest hitter in the area.

The senior had two more hits on Saturday, and scored two runs.

Evan Chang went 2 for 2 with three RBIs, and Dawson Netz also went 2 for 2, scored one run and drove in two.

Marco Martinez doubled, scored twice and had one RBI.

Max Blessinger went 1 for 3 with a run scored and an RBI.

The Minutemen will face Valley Christian for a pair of Olympic League games starting Tuesday night at 6 in Cerritos.

Quotable:

Maranatha coach Matt Shupper: “Today was a brand new day and the Minutemen really didn’t let our loss the day before settle in. We knew going on that we were playing a very talented and well coached Campbell Hall team. The guys took their same focus, their same mentality and same intensity into today’s game and we had the outcome that we have been working towards. Our hitters hit, our pitchers pitched and our defense played catch. We have 2 games next week and now switch 100% of our attention to Tuesday’s matchup.”

Maranatha pitcher Dawson Netz: “Losing is always tough, but through the few loses we have had we have been able to figure out small weaknesses about ourselves that we can fix and make better.  Today, we were able to incorporate these changes and see what it looks like to play a complete game in all areas, which will ultimately help us down the road when playoffs rolls around.”
