Mayfield had quite the week.

The Cubs’ softball program defeated Prep League rivals Poly and Flintridge Prep.

And the track and field program won its third straight Prep League championship.

In softball, the Cubs beat the Panthers, 5-4, on Tuesday, and then won a slugfest, 12-8, on Friday over the Rebels.

Jaylin Domingo went the distance in the circle on Tuesday.

She allowed three earned runs on six hits and struck out six batters.

Domingo also drove in two runs to help her own cause.

Julia Watson and Madeline Biscaichipy each had two hits apiece and an RBI.

Three days later, Domingo threw another complete game, allowing five runs on five hits and striking out six.

Madeline Biscaichipy had one hit and drove in three runs.

Jack Baggott drove in two runs, scored once and had one base hit.

The victories last week allowed Mayfield to move up to third place in league in what would be an automatic playoff berth.

**On Friday, Mayfield earned a Prep League championship behind a huge day from Sophie Silva.

The Cubs finished first with 155 team points and Flintridge Prep was second with 125.

Silva set schools records and won titles in the 100 and 300-meter hurdles.

Silva finished the 100 meter hurdles in 15.89, and was followed by teammate Kathryn Berzas, who crossed the finish line at 17.44.

In the 300 meter hurdles, Silva’s record time was 47.88, which was nearly three seconds faster than Westridge High’s Samantha Khalsa, who finished at 50.29.

Mayfield also won the 4X100 relay with Mia Koga, Marissa Perez, Isabella Mendoza and Solunna Nwankwo.

The foursome finished just .19 seconds before Westridge when they finished at 51.76.

“Our goal was to go out and do the best they could for each other and they did just that to earn another League Championship. It was an overall great team effort,” Mayfield track coach Eric Sun said.
