The Pasadena City College softball team makes its first appearance in the postseason in 11 years Friday-Saturday, May 5-6 when the No. 13 seeded Lancers play at No. 4 Palomar in the first round of the SoCal Regional Playoffs. The two teams play in a best-of-3 game series.

Coach Monica Tantlinger’s Lancers (25-13-1 overall) go into the playoffs after placing five players on the All-South Coast Conference North Division Team. Making SCC First Team for the second straight year was shortstop Karina Moreno and for the first time sophomore pitcher Pica Madrid.

Sophomore third baseman Brittany Ching, freshman centerfielder Angel Urbina, and freshman catcher Jeneve Medrano were selected SCC Second Team.

PCC finished in second place in the SCC North while Palomar (26-11) won the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference crown.

Moreno, PCC’s all-time runs scored leader, batted .352 with six triples, 19 steals and 13 RBI in the regular season. Madrid pitched her way to a 12-7 mark with four saves and a 2.85 ERA in 105.2 innings pitched.

Ching batted .309 with a team-high six doubles and 10 RBI while leading the conference in fielding assists with 82. Urbina batted .340 with 11 RBI and played solid defense in center field. Medrano batted .270 with a home run and 10 RBI as she supplied consistent defense behind the plate handling the Lancers pitching staff.

PCC hasn’t faced Palomar since the 2011 season opener, a 14-0 loss in the LA Mission Tournament. The Lancers open the playoffs with a 2 p.m. non-elimination game on Friday, May 5.
