Low in numbers and hurt by injuries to some key athletes, the Pasadena City College women’s track and field team saw its season officially come to an end at the Southern California Regional Prelims Meet held May 6 at Cerritos College.

The only Lancers’ qualifier for the SoCals, Ramina Padashi Fard ran ninth in her heat and 15th overall in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Padashi Fard’s time of 12:49.12 failed to qualify for the top 12 that make it into this week’s SoCal Championships.

It is the second straight year that the PCC women failed to score at the SoCal Championships.

At the South Coast Conference Championships on April 25-28 held at El Camino College, Padashi Fard ran fifth place in the steeplechase at 12:50.71. Her four scoring points were all the team could muster as PCC placed last of the six colleges competing at the SCC meet.

Cerritos scored 341 points to win the SCC women’s team title.

Also at the SCC meet, Padashi Fard was 10th in the 5,000 meters (22:22.72) while Natalie Smith took ninth in the 400 hurdles finals (1:12.47), and was 11th in the 100 hurdles (18.01) during the prelims. During the SCC Prelims, Naomi Hernandez was 20th (15.99) Karishma Vekaria 21st (16.44) in the 100-meter dash. In the 200 dash, Hernandez was 27th (34.35) and Vekaria 28th (34.59).

PCC is coached by Innocent Egbunike, who completed his first season directing the program.
