From Staff Reports

Of the three Pasadena-area boys volleyball powers, only La Salle is still standing after the first round of the CIF-SS playoffs.

And they had to travel 213 miles each way to earn it.

Flintridge Prep and Poly both lost home matches in five sets and saw their seasons come to an end.

As of this writing (12:15 a.m.), La Salle is still more than an hour away from getting home from Morro Boy.

To keep their season alive, though, it will be worth the drive.

Will Dalgarn has consistently led the Lancers all year and Tuesday was no different.

Dalgarn had 16 kills in the Lancers’ 25-20, 25-15, 25-23 victory at Morro Bay.

La Salle will play Kennedy of La Palma, and a coin flip with determine Thursday’s location.

Kennedy defeated Vistamar, 25-15, 25-6, 25-17.

The Fighting Irish, though, only had a 24-mile bus ride to El Segundo to earn their spot in the second round.

CJ Rettig added 9 kills for the Lancers.

Philip Ibarra had 14 digs, 3 kills and a block.

Brandon King added 14 digs.

Quotable:

La Salla coach Tiare Tuitama: “Today was a great game, as both teams played well. The biggest thing going forward now is the momentum we have gained from a long drive. I’m so proud of how we played. We walked in and competed. Will Dalgarn contributing 16 kills from the offense and Brandon King digging up 14 digs helped our team finish the game, Philip Ibarra had 3 kills 1 solo block 14 digs.”

La Salle junior Will Dalgarn: We played a hard fought game. They were a really strong team, but we got our middles involved early and that really helped us spread our offense out to keep the blockers guessing. I’m really proud of this team and can’t wait for Thursday.”

La Salle senior Philip Ibarra: “I’m very happy with the way we performed today. We played with confidence and heart, and we got the outcome we wanted. We plan to take this momentum into the next round.”
