If the Poly softball players don’t have a chip on their shoulder, they should.

The Panthers earned a Prep League championship, going 11-1, and yet they received a much more difficult bracket than teams they swept in league.

If that weren’t enough, a California web site that is known for making odds had Estancia as a three-run favorite heading into Thursday’s first round of the CIF-SS Division 6 playoffs.

(Bleep) that is basically what Poly said with their play.

They went out and earned a 10-0, 5-inning, mercy-rule victory.

Brennah Bronk went all five innings and allowed two hits.

The sophomore walked one and struck out seven.

Bronk also helped her own cause, going 2 for 2, walked twice and drove in a run.

The Panthers will face top-seeded Sierra Canyon on Tuesday.

Catalina Alonso had two hits and drove in three runs for the Panthers.

Vivian Wheeler had one hit and scored one run, and Ali Ulin also scored once and had one hit.

Laura Chin went 1 for 3 and scored once.

Ella Cornwell also contributed with a double, triple and an RBI.

Quotable:

Poly coach Jenn Bond: “pretty much everybody one through nine was able to come up with a hit today. We are on fire hitting wise. We’re making things happen and running the bases well. Brennah, right now, there is no one else I’d rather give the ball right now.”

Poly pitcher Brennah Bronk: “I think I did pretty solid today. I could have pitched better. I was proud of the way I hit. My defense really had my back today. I was nervous last year, it was like a walk in the park.”

Poly shortstop Catalina Alonso: “I was excited for the game to start. We came out and we were able to get some solid hits in. Getting a big lead really helps. She (Brennah) is a solid pitcher. As a shortstop, I’m comfortable with her.”

Box Score:
Estancia: 0-0-0-0-0-(0)
Pas Poly: 4-0-0-5-1-(10)

Win: Bronk (12-5)
Loss: Walker

Records:
Poly (16-7); Estancia (15-11)
