Ok, see if any of this makes sense.
Mayfield entered the 2017 softball playoffs without their ace Jaylin Domingo, and not a single Cubs’ player had one inning of playoff experience before Tuesday afternoon.
But despite both of those facts, Mayfield is 2-0 thus far in the CIF-SS Division 7 playoffs, and have won by a combined total of 39-4.
Mayfield went out to Riverside on Thursday and battered Bethel Christian, 20-0, in a five-inning, mercy-rule victory.
Two days prior, they put 19 runs on the board in a blowout over Serra.
Giselle De Anda pitched a complete-game shutout, allowing four hits and striking out two.
Taylin Yankovich went 3-4, with a walk.
She hit two doubles, scored four times and had four RBI’S.
Alyssa Romo went 2 for 3 with four RBI’S, including a bases-clearing double.
Romo had a stolen base and scored two runs. with a bases loaded clearing double,
Monica DeZern went 3-3 with one double, scored twice and drove in four runs.
Madeline Hotaling went 3-4 with two RBI’S and she scored for runs. runs.
Mayfield (15-7) will host undefeated Carnegie Schools of Riverside (19-0) on Tuesday at 3:15.
The Wolverines defeated the California School for the Deaf, 22-6 in the first round and then edged Excelsior Charter, 7-6, on Tuesday.
Mayfield is cautiously optimistic they may get Jaylin Domingo back for Tuesday’s
