When Poly thinks back on its 2017 softball season, the season-ending 10-0 loss at top-seeded Sierra Canyon won’t be much more than an afterthought.

Obviously they wanted to go deeper than the second round of the CIF-SS Division 6 playoffs.

But no one can take away their 16 wins, which included a Prep League championship.

They got a raw deal in their bracket, but the Panthers had no choice other than to take the challenge head on.

And while they fell short in five innings, many on their core players will be back to build off a successful 2017 season.

As far Tuesday went, Sierra Canyon absolutely looked like the No. 1 seed in Division 6.

They pounded out 17 hits against one of the area’s best pitchers in Poly’s Brennah Bronk.

Alyssa Nunez threw a five-inning shutout and allowed just singles to Vivian Wheeler, Catalina Alonso, Rory Xanders and Maddie Magee.

Sierra Vista got three hits apiece from Janae Weise, Alyssa Nunez and Carly Beard, and they combined to drive in four runs.

Quotable:

Poly coach Jennifer Bond: “We saw why they are the #1 seed. The league title was very well deserved. The girls this year put their heart and soul out on the field.”
