Sophomore Mei-Ling Laures (Chicago, Ill. / British International School of Chicago) assisted on 12 kills as Caltech’s primary setter in the Beavers’ SCIAC opener against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges. Laures’ primary targets, sophomore Alexa Lauinger (Ortonville, Mich. / Brandon) and freshman Isabell Yang (Arcadia, Calif. / Arcadia) each had five kills to lead the team. Lauinger, in particular also exhibted great positioning, leading the Beavers with 10 digs. Junior Sakthi Vetrival (Redmond, Wash. / Overlake School), to her credit had three kills and zero attacking errors. Caltech ultimately dropped the match to the Athenas, 3-0.
Head Coach Tom Gardner and the Beavers will hope for a better overall showing when they host Chapman University on Friday, Sept. 22 at 7:00 p.m.
