From STAFF REPORTS

There was only one way Pasadena had a shot at winning the 2017-18 Pacific League title.

They needed to beat unbeaten (in league play) Crescenta Valley on the road Tuesday night.

PHS did that, 65-59, behind an amazing and balanced team effort to give Crescenta Valley (7-1 in league) their first loss.

Mariah Cathcart had a big night with 16 points, 8 assists, and a 6-of-6 effort from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter.

Kamesha Moore also continued her great play.

The super-soph finished with 14 points, 10 assists and 5 steals.

Taurie Magee added 14 points and 12 rebounds.

Kameria Piggee had 14 points, 10 rebounds and 4 blocks.

PHS (6-1 in league) is now just one-game back with 6 to play in the regular season.

The Bulldogs fell in their first meeting, 50-49, on Jan. 3, so the bus ride back to Pasadena had to be fun for coach Jett del Mundo, his staff and his fine players for clutching up.

Pasadena will take its act on the road again, as the Bulldogs travel to Arcadia on Friday at 5:30.

The Bulldogs defeated the Apaches on Jan. 5, 45-44, in overtime.

Quotable:

Pasadena coach Jett del Mundo: “This win sets the tone for how we want to compete in the 2nd half of league play! We want everyone to know that the Pacific League championship goes through Pasadena…in our program we want to be in the mix every year!

We gave away games and I wanted to see if we’ve grown up and learned from the experience…This win was about defining our team game; we are a very tough team to beat if we are sharing the ball and playing 4 quarters of solid team defense! And ultimately these 2nd half games are how we want to set the table for our CIF/State playoff run!

It’s a great day to be a Pasadena Bulldog!”
