From STAFF REPORTS

Pasadena and its coach, Jett del Mundo know if they want to win at least a share of the Pacific League title, they need to win their last six games.

Make that five games.

Pasadena hitched onto Mariah Cathcart’s quick and strong effort and earned a 54-41 victory over Arcadia on Friday evening in a Pacific League contest.

In fact Cathcart had 18 points in the first half and Arcadia as a team had 15.

Coach del Mundo wanted to slow it down in the second half and his program moved to 17-7 overall, and 7-2 in league.

Crescenta Valley (17-5, 8-1) defeated lowly Hoover, 86-15, and the Falcons remain one-game ahead of PHS with 5 games to go.

Pasadena handed CV their first loss of the season last Friday, but still need to hope that either Glendale, Burroughs, Burbank or Arcadia knocks them off down the stretch, because they know Muir is likely not going to upset the Falcons on Jan 31.

Kamesha Moore finished with 12 points, 8 assists, 6 rebounds and 3 steals.

Taurie Magee added 12 points, 12 rebounds and 3 steals.

Mariah Cathcart led the Bulldogs throughout the game; but it was her torrid start that paced the team! In the first half Mariah put up 18 pts to lead the Bulldogs vs Arcadia’s combined team total of 15pts.

In the 2nd half Arcadia tried to slow down Mariah’s hot hand. It was then that Taurie Magee put up 11 pts and Kamesha Moore added another 12 pts while shooting 6/7 on the free throw line to seal the game in the fourth.

PHS will take on Burbank on Monday at 7, and then have Hoover and Glendale to finish off a three-game, Pacific League week.

Quotable:

PHS coach Jett del Mundo: “We needed to show that the close win in OT in the first half of league play was an off night for PHS Girls Basketball. We believe in the team game at Pasadena, and Arcadia would be reminded of that in this league contest! The PHS Bulldogs play defense for four quarters while sharing the ball on offense!

In the end, Arcadia’s individual style of basketball was no match for the ever improving team game of the Pasadena Bulldogs! The Bulldogs solid 12 man roster all contributed to this team win, with all seeing time on the floor! It was another great day to be a PHS Bulldog!”

Box Score:

A: 6-8-7-20-(41)
