Baseball is an incredibly humbling game.
Three weeks into the 2018 season, Pasadena had earned an area-best 8 wins.
But as quickly as baseball can lift you up, it can also bring you right back down to earth.
And that’s exactly what happened on Monday for the Bulldogs.
Paramount, which entered their Babe Herman Tournament game against their visitors from Pasadena 0-7, defeated the Bulldogs, 3-2.
Nik Moran got the loss after allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits.
Moran threw 95 pitches over his five innings, and he walked seven and struck out five.
Alvie Castro went 2 for 3 and drove in both Bulldogs’ runs.
Moran doubled and scored a run.
Jonathan Largaespada got the win for Paramount, going six innings, and surrendering two earned runs on 8 hits.
Largaespada walked one and struck out five.
Julian Ruiz earned the save with a scoreless seventh inning for the Pirates.
Connor Terry, Jacob Green, Adrian DePasquale, David Banuelos, Ramon Ramirez and Robert Olivades all had base hits for a PHS team that out-hit Paramount, 9-6.
The Pirates’ Robert Mendez went 3 for 3 and drove in a run.
Pasadena will head out to Fontana Tuesday to take on Summit (5-4) at 3:30.
