Neither starting pitcher was especially sharp, but Lake Norman of Mooresville, North Carolina was able to rough up Maranatha pitching for 8 runs and 12 hits.
The Wildcats trailed 5-0 through the first inning and a half, but they bounced back and saddled Maranatha with an 8-6 loss on Thursday in Florida.
Maranatha starter Charles Acker got the loss after allowing seven runs on five hits over 2 1/3 innings.
Acker walked four and struck out two.
Sam Zayicek went 2 for 4, including a triple, scored once and finished with three RBIs for the Wildcats.
Scotty Diekman collected three hits and scored two runs for Lake Norman.
Acker did his best at the plate, going 2 for 4 with a triple and a pair of RBIs.
Max Blessinger tripled, scored and drove in two runs.
Blessinger’s bat has been red hot, as the junior leadoff hitter has seven hits already in three games at the IMG National Classic.
Marco Martinez broke out after a slow start in Florida, and collected two hits, including a double and the senior scored twice.
Nico Khoury had one hit and an RBI, and Ben Guess doubled and scored for the Minutemen.
Harrison Livingston went 2 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored for Lake Norman.
Carter Sheppard got the win for the Wildcats, going 4 2/3 innings, allowing five runs (four earned) on five hits.
Sheppard walked six and struck out eight.
JP Caire, Will Downing and Jack Goodman combined to hold Lake Norman scoreless over the final 4 2/3 inning, walking just one and striking out four.
