From STAFF REPORTS

Zane Lindeman and La Salle got a much-needed shot in the arm thanks to the 2017 Pasadena Sports Now Pitcher of the Year and some help from last-place Serra.

The Lancers’ 2-0 victory behind a masterful performance from Zane Lindeman was just half of the good news on Tuesday for La Salle.

They also got help from last place Serra (1-5 in league) for beating second place St. Paul, which allows La Salle to jump back into a second place tie with the Swordsmen and with a couple weeks to go in the regular season.

Lindeman went the distance, shutting out Bishop Amat on three hits.

The 6-foot-4 right-hander walked one and struck out four, earning the victory on 86 pitches.

Brennan Mace went 2 for 3 at the plate, scoring once and driving in the other La Salle run on Tuesday night.

Victor Scalzo had a pair of base hits for the Lancers.

Henry Kavanaugh walked and scored for La Salle.

Tyler White, Blake Archuleta and Zach Licon had the three harmless base hits for Amat, who fell to 6-1 in Del Rey League play.

Quotable:

La Salle coach Eddie McKiernan: “We played the game the right way. We had good intensity and really got after it. Zane pounded the zone and made big pitches. He set the tone for the team. He’s a bulldog and bulldogs win big games.”

La Salle pitcher Zane Lindeman: “It was a great team win. The team energy was way up the whole game, which was huge. Our outfielders made some clutch plays and I am really proud of them. All around, we played excellent defensively and we got a couple of key hits. It’s always good to beat a first place team. Brennan Mace called a great game (behind the plate).”

La Salle shortstop Ethan Patrick: “Zane pitched an outstanding game tonight. Every time Zane is on the bump, you know he’s going to pitch his heart out and have a good outing. His pitching helped give our offense a ton of energy, which helped us come out on top. Zane continued to show why he’s the best pitcher in the San Gabriel Valley.”
