Second baseman Alex Howard tripled and had two RBI and pinch hitter Bree Howard (not related) belted a solo home run as the Pasadena City College softball team blanked El Camino College-Compton Center, 8-0, Thursday at Robinson Park. The game was called in the bottom of the sixth due to the 8-run mercy rule.
The Howards’ offense aided the combined 2-hit pitching efforts of starter Angel Wintercorn (three innings, one, five strikeouts) and reliever and winning pitcher Lauren Jackson (three innings, one hit), who retired the last nine Compton batters in order.
In the first inning after Alex Howard hit a RBI triple to left, Torrey Johnson and Angel Urbina delivered RBI singles as PCC took a 3-0 first-inning lead. Bree Howard’s drive came in the fourth inning as her towering hit landed over the left-center field fence for the team’s first dinger of the season.
Alex Howard and Urbina each were 2-for-3 with a stolen base.
On Wednesday, the Lancers lost at Cypress, 7-2. Johnson hit 2-for-3 with a double.
Coach Monica Tantlinger’s Lancers (2-3 record) next will play at Glendale on Saturday, Feb. 11 in a 6 p.m. evening start at the Glendale Sports Complex (weather permitting).
