From Staff Reports:
Talk about starting off the new season in style.
Marshall opened its new gym in style with a sweep over Muir and did so for first-year coach Sang Lee.
The Eagles earned a 25-23, 25-17, 25-15 over the visiting Mustangs Tuesday afternoon.
Senior Samantha James led the way with 10 kills and four aces.
The Marshall outside hitter has a 4.5 grade-point average and is hoping to go to Yale next year.
But for now, she and her teammates are hoping to bounce back from a 3-15 season a year ago.
And things are already looking up.
Aileen Lopez added 19 assists for the Eagles.
Middle blocker Allison Moore chipped in with 6 kills.
Marshall hopes to get its second win of the new season on Thursday when they host Blair at 3:15.
Quotable:
Marshall coach Sang Lee: “We are very excited to start the season on a positive note. There were lots of nerves at the start of the match, but we started to settle in a bit in the latter sets. We have a lot of work to do before league, but are glad we won our first match in the new gym. I think our passing was a bit better than Muir, but they battled and deserve a lot of credit for that.”
